Amsterdam Rotary Club announces its Citizen of the Year!
This year the Amsterdam Rotary Club is honoring the Reverend Kent McHeard as their Citizen of the Year! Kent is truly a man who lives up to the Rotary club's motto of service above self with his volunteer efforts and good deeds in our community.
Kent has been active in our community by serving on the following boards and organizations:
*Greater Amsterdam School district School board where he is currently the Vice President. In the past he served as President.
*President of the Amsterdam football club booster club
*Pastor of the Woestina Reformed Church in Rotterdam Junction
*Committee member and chaplain for Boy Scout Troop 48 in Amsterdam
*Chaplain for the following volunteer fire departments, town of Florida, Pattersonville, and Rotterdam Junction.
*Serves on the general synod of the Reformed church of America
*Serves on the Albany synod Church
*and he is on numerous other advisory boards and committees in our region

After the Schoharie limousine tragedy, Reverend McHeard was instrumental in holding a prayer vigil for the victims. of it . His kindness and healing words helped bring the community together during this time of grief.
Kent is married to his wife of 20 years Colleen McHeard, and he is the proud father of his two sons Garrett and Parker. He holds an associates degree from Word of Life bible college, earned his bachelors from Liberty University, and holds a masters of Divinity from New Brunswick Seminary.
